Welcome to the Gulf Coast!
Orange Beach and Gulf Shores share the same glorious strip of Alabama coastline, but there's more going on here than white sand and warm Gulf water. There are backcountry trails through marshes and pine forests, boats heading out in search of dolphins, seafood shacks overlooking the water, and spectacular sunsets accompanied by great live music.
There's plenty beyond the Alabama line, too. Fort Morgan, Perdido Key, and Pensacola Beach are all close enough for day trips and worth the extra mileage.
Below, we've put together a local's guide to our favorite spots and activities in OB and Gulf Shores, as well as some of the highlights you can't miss when visiting Fort Morgan, Perdido Key, and Pensacola Beach.

Orange Beach
Beaches, Coastal Parks & Nature
Cotton Bayou Beach
One of Orange Beach's most convenient public beaches, with a broad stretch of white sand and clear Gulf water, close to central Orange Beach. The beach has plenty of room for swimming, sunbathing, and shoreline walks, with restrooms, outdoor showers, and boardwalk access nearby. Bring chairs, umbrellas, and a cooler, as there are no rental stands directly on the sand. Check the beach flags before swimming and clear your gear from the beach at sunset.
Romar Beach
Located 6.8 miles east of Highway 59, this accessible stretch of beach is great for a spontaneous swim, a walk along the shore, or a picnic on the sand. Restrooms and outdoor showers are available near the beach access.
Alabama Point East
Head east of Perdido Pass Bridge for a broad stretch of sand, dunes, boardwalks, and lovely views of boats navigating the pass. The jetties are also worth exploring for dolphin and sea turtle spotting.
Orange Beach Waterfront Park
Swap the Gulf for Wolf Bay at this family-friendly park with a fishing pier, playground, picnic shelters, and open lawns. Pair your visit with the neighboring Coastal Arts Center, home to galleries, The Clay Studio, and The Hot Shop, where you can watch glassblowers at work or book a hands-on session.

Family Attractions & Entertainment
The Wharf
Orange Beach's big entertainment district with a Ferris wheel, marina, shops, restaurants, movie theater, arcade games, and the Wharf Amphitheater, where you can catch regular live performances.
Adventure Island
For families who need a few hours away from the beach, this classic amusement stop has go-karts, mini golf, bumper boats, laser tag, arcade games, and a five-story faux volcano that's a hit with kids.
Orange Beach Indian & Sea Museum
A restored 1910 schoolhouse that tells the story of the area's Native American heritage and fishing community through photographs, artifacts, fishing equipment, and local memorabilia. Admission is free, and you only need around 30 to 45 minutes to visit.
Fun Boats Dolphin Cruises
Fun Boats Dolphin Cruises is one of Orange Beach's top-rated operators, taking guests on two-hour cruises through the area's protected waterways. Along the way, you'll have the chance to spot dolphins, learn about local marine life, and enjoy beautiful views from the water.

Where to Eat
- The Gulf: The Gulf is a pretty cool space built from shipping containers on the sand, surrounded by palm trees, sandy seating, passing boats, Gulf breezes, and views of Perdido Pass. Their grouper sandwiches and fish tacos are sensational, and grabbing a drink at sunset is highly recommended.
- Cobalt: Sitting beneath Perdido Pass Bridge, Cobalt has great waterfront views, and its menu is packed with Gulf seafood dishes such as fresh oysters, pecan-fried catfish, crab and scallop cakes, Gulf shrimp and grits, and blackened yellowfin tuna. Sunset tables are pretty popular, so get there early or reserve ahead.
- Zeke's Restaurant: Part of Zeke's Landing & Marina, this polished waterfront restaurant specializes in Gulf seafood, steaks, oysters, and cocktails. Pair dinner with one of the cruises departing from the marina for a full evening on the water.
- Doc's Seafood Shack & Oyster Bar: Old-school Orange Beach seafood with fried shrimp, oysters, gumbo, and plenty of local character. Finish with the Salted Caramel Bushwacker.
- Brick & Spoon: A popular brunch spot known for stuffed French toast, crab-heavy breakfasts, and an extensive build-your-own Bloody Mary menu.

Nightlife & Bars
- Flora-Bama Lounge & Oyster Bar: This sprawling roadhouse has occupied the Alabama-Florida line since 1964, with several live-music stages, bars, oysters, and decades of Gulf Coast mythology. Daytime is much more family-friendly. Things get considerably rowdier after dark.
- Flora-Bama Yacht Club & Ole River Grill: Across the road from the main Flora-Bama, these waterfront spots offer seafood, cold drinks, live music, and a much calmer setting along Ole River.
- 8 Reale: A speakeasy at The Wharf reached through a vault door, with the entry code shared through its social channels. It's a cool experience for a date night, with cocktails that have plenty of personality.
- The Keg Lounge & Grill: This OB dive has been around since 1980. Join the local crowd for cold beer, pool, and darts. If you need a bite, order The Keg Burger.

Gulf Shores
Beaches, Coastal Parks & Nature
Gulf Shores Public Beach at Gulf Place
Gulf Shores' main public beach has a broad sweep of soft white sand facing the turquoise waters of the Gulf. It's a lively stretch for swimming, sunbathing, beach games, and long walks along the shoreline. Showers, restrooms, volleyball courts, and boardwalks are available, with restaurants and bars just across the road.
West Beach
If you prefer staying away from the busiest central beach area, head west from Gulf Place for a more residential stretch lined with beach houses, smaller developments, and neighborhood restaurants.
Gulf State Park
This enormous coastal park protects beaches, marshes, pine forests, lakes, and wildlife habitat between Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. One of the park's highlights is the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail, with more than 28 miles of paved trails winding through pine woods, wetlands, freshwater marshes, and coastal scrub, with great chances to spot deer, birds, turtles, and alligators along the way. There's also Lake Shelby for a change of scenery, with calm freshwater surrounded by greenery and opportunities for kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing.
Gulf State Park Pier
Walk out over the Gulf for fishing, beautiful coastal views, and a chance of spotting dolphins, rays, sea turtles, and schooling fish below. Naturalist-led pier walks also run on selected dates.
